What a busy week! To kick it off, I am sure you have heard about the Apex Fun Run. What is great about this fundraiser is that it involves each kid in a mini-lesson to encourage them. The first lesson was on Diving In to follow their dreams. The second was on being Resourceful in order to solve their problems. The third was to Elevate each other by being kind. They are taught by an Apex Fun Run captain who comes in daily-super fun! We have JerBear coming and the kids love when he does. Our Fun Run will be on this Thursday from 1:15-2:15. If you can come and hand out water or mark laps that the kids do, PLEASE join us for a grand event! :)
Reading:
We have learned about the digraph /sh/ this week by reading some books with that sound and making some cute sharks!
We also have been learning about asking questions! Good readers ask questions before, during and after reading. We had a great time wondering things and then reading to find our answers.
It is also so cool to hear them use ALL their strategies they have learned this year. We are making connections, predictions, summarizing and talking about fiction or non-fiction books all. the. time! They are turning into amazing little readers! :)
Math:
We continued working on ways to make numbers (addition sentences). The kids have been doing amazing while learning their facts! :)

Unit Study:
We started a unit about plants. We learned the 5 needs of a plant.
We got to look inside of a seed and plant one. We also planted bulbs thanks to Mrs. Himley! :)
The kids have been working in groups to create their posters. It is AWESOME to hear them work together!!!

5MTOW:
Have your kids tell you the sums of various addition problems you give them orally. They are good at using their fingers and many of them learned the strategy of counting on for those bigger problems. :)
