Week of Learning 4/18

Teacher Cadet:
Students from the high school can elect to take a class called Teacher Cadet. It trains students on how to be teachers to see if it could be a future career. We have an amazing cadet this year named Miss Alyssa! She has jumped right in and the kids adore her. She has also been a HUGE help to Mrs. Cooprider.

Reading:
We summarized our fiction stories about Franklin and wrote facts we learned about turtles from our non-fiction texts.

In the beginning were the characters and setting

In the middle was the problem

At the end was the solution

We also made our very own turtle books!

Letter and Sight Words:
We learned about Zz and the words-new, now, good, help. Please continue to review sight words as much as possible. I am sending home a list of missed words with your child's report card.

Math:
We started learning about addition and all the ways to make numbers. We already knew a lot because of making numbers with our fingers (finger patterns).

We colored cubes to recognize various ways to make numbers

We used counters and a whole-part-part mat and wrote the addition facts we found

We used 2 colored counters

We rolled dice and added the dots

Unit Study:
We studied living and non-living this week!

5MTOW:
Write sight words on mirrors or windows with a dry erase marker. Once your child REALLY knows it erase and replace with a new one. Practice spelling the sight words while driving and have your child guess which sight word it is. Have them flash you the cards and you have to read them. There are tons of ways to practice! :)

Week of Learning 4/11

We finished our 3rd 9 weeks this week! ACK! Time is flying by. That also means we completed a lot of assessments this week and your kids are doing amazing! But that will explain why we don't have many pictures this week.

Reading:
We read cat/kitten books this week! We summarized them and compared them.

This one had us making text to text connections to Humprhey!

Sight words and Letters:
We learned about the letter Kk this week and made koalas.

Please keep practicing those sight words at home. There will be a sheet in your child's report card showing which he/she knows and which he/she doesn't.

Math:
We reviewed 1 more and 1 less a lot this week! We even came up with hand motions to help remind us that 1 more means count up 1 and 1 less means count back 1. We practiced with dice, boards, and each other.

Unit Study:
We finished our unit on reducing our waste by reusing and recycling. We watched some really cool videos about trash, landfills, and recycling. Even Mrs. Cooprider learned some things!

5MTOW:
Practice 1 more and 1 less lots while driving in the car. Say any number and have your kids tell you 1 more than the number and 1 less. Go as high as you can to 100 to give them a challenge! :)

THANK YOU!!!!!

Oh my goodness! Thank you all for your generosity with the gift card to Bed, Bath and Beyond! The kids were SO excited for me to open the card!!!!! There have definitely been prizes that we have needed to purchase for our new home.  :)

One School, One Book

The big unveiling of our school-wide book club will be tomorrow as well as our NEW school pet! :) Please have your child bring in a stuffed animal they think would make a good pet.

We think the school should get a cat!

We are reading: Friendship According to Humphrey

Each day, we summarize the chapter and create illustrations to go with it. Here is what we have so far:

Humphrey also spent the weekend at Mrs.Cooprider's house!
