Week of Learning 12/7

 Merry December!

Reading:
Gingerbread Week is one of my favorites!!! I love comparing and contrasting all the different versions and because there are so many, it is great for making predictions!

This was our rhyme this week! They loved putting their name in.
We made our own book!
Letters and Sight Words:
We learned about Gg this week that says the /g/ sound like in goat not /j/ like in jump! Tricky, tricky!  We also talked about big, get, and got.

Goats!

Student of the Day:

We have a new student of the day routine. The child tells us a sentence about himself/herself and I model writing it. Then we write the SOD a note complimenting him/her.

Math:
We filled in all the minutes on our analog clock and are now adding the hours. We do this during our everyday counts time!
We played 4 Kings in small group with teens. The kids flip over a card and match the color and order.
We had a lot of fun with the Gingerbread Man this week and did lots of graphing.

Gingerbread Girl was our favorite! :)
We graphed what part we would eat first! I laughed that almost everyone ate his head!
As you can see...we really like the Gingerbread Man!!! :)

Unit Study:
We finished our magnet unit this week! It was so fun hearing them explore with magnets to find out what was magnetic and what wasn't. I heard lots of "LOOK! The scissors do attract a magnet!" or "Yep! I was right. The marble is not magnetic."

5MTOW:
 10 Finger Facts:
Say this: Put your hands out front. Show me 10 on your fingers. Put down one finger. How many does that leave? What does 9 and 1 make? Show me that on your fingers.
Continue with 8 and 2; 7 and 3; 6 and 4; 5 and 5; 4 and 6; 3 and 7; 2 and 8; 1 and 9.

100 Club!
If your child can count to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s, they are part of the 100 Club!

December Picture!:)

New Assistant!
We already love Mrs.Kayes! She is a perfect fit for our class! :)

Reading:
We practiced making predictions this week with Jan Brett books. Her illustrations on the do a great job supporting us.

Letter and Sight Words:
Our letter this week was Ff and the sight words were: for, or, find, of.

Math:
We started a unit on graphing. We talked about collecting data by using tally marks to help us keep record; making an object graph to show the data, and then a picture graph.

Unit Study:
We started a super fun unit on MAGNETS! They were so excited playing with "magic" in these stations. They were amazed by it's magnetic force!

5MTOW:
“I’m Going on a Trip”
Play a variation of the “I’m going on a trip” game by only taking items that begin with a certain sound. If the sound was /d/, have one child start by saying, “I’m going on a trip and I’m taking a dog.” The child next to him in the circle says, “I’m going on a trip and I’m taking a dog and a doctor. Continue around the circle until the children run out of ideas or someone forgets, and then start a new sequence with a different beginning sound.
